A star chip is another common windshield rock chip that has damage that exhibits a series of legs that emanate from the break. Star chips can be front window repair if the chip's total diameter (including legs) does not to exceed 3 inches.
Some technicians might rip you off by suggesting a brand new windshield when in fact all you need is have the crack fixed, so make sure you examine the damage. A small crack of up to six inches long can definitely be repaired. Repairing the crack or chip rather than replacing the whole windshield especially when you can help it is best because it's safe and less expensive.
